General
The historic village of Zaandijk with approximately 8,500 inhabitants is part of the municipality of Zaanstad (approximately 160,000 inhabitants) and is located near Koog aan de Zaan, Wormerveer and Zaandam. Zaandijk is particularly known for the Zaanse Schans, which is located on the other side of the river Zaan.
Zaandijk is a charming village, with almost only original Zaan buildings. The Lagedijk is the most beautiful part of the Zaan region. Beautiful dike houses were built on the Lagedijk in the past. Lagedijk 60 is built of stone and stands out among the mainly wooden surrounding houses.
This was once the villa of a wealthy Zaan notary, who had it built in 1903. The building was split into two houses during the previous century. Number 60 is set back from the road with a lovely front garden in front of it.
The building is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. Marble, ornaments, decorative fittings, monumental stairs and stained glass. Yet the house offers a peaceful and modern look. As the owner, you will enjoy this building, the amazing location and the view over the water at the Zaanse Schans every day.
Location
Within 12 minutes you are through the Amsterdam Coentunnel by car, within 20 minutes you reach the Zuidas.
With a few minutes walk you are at the station, after 18 minutes you get off at Amsterdam Central. In 26 minutes you are at Schiphol.
You can do your daily shopping within walking distance of the Lagedijk. In the street there is a bakery, nice coffee/eat places, cafés and restaurants. Within a radius of 1 km there is a wide choice of primary schools and secondary education.
Layout
Upon entering the house, you are greeted by an entrance that sets the tone for what is to come. In the hall, you are immediately drawn to the view over the Zaan. The original tiles in the vestibule exude character, as does the mosaic tiled floor, while the marble floor in the hall adds a sense of luxury. This hall, which is beautifully illuminated by a skylight on the roof and a glass floor on the first floor, also forms the heart of the house.
The kitchen (2020, upgrade 2025) combines modern design with functionality. The herringbone floor is the perfect base for the kitchen with induction hob, dishwasher, oven, fridge and freezer. The high, beautifully ornamented ceilings, the wide door frames, the Belgian marble mantelpiece and the large windows add elegance to the space. The kitchen, as the heart of the house, offers space for a very large dining table.
Through the en-suite doors you are welcomed into the living room, providing a warm atmosphere. The picture is completed by the marble fireplace with wood stove, built-in cupboards and an elegant ceiling with ornaments. So don't forget to look up at this 4-metre high ceiling!
Step through the French doors and enter the tranquility of the water. This beautifully landscaped garden, designed by Erik van Gelder, offers a unique private spot with its own jetty. This is perpendicular to the bank, creating a double mooring of 2 x 10 metres. So enjoy the enchanting view of the Zaanse Schans, the boats that sail past and the rural surroundings.
Back in the hall, you will find a passage to the basement and the toilet, with a beautiful Belgian hard stone sink.
On the first floor, the stairs lead you to a daylight-lit landing with oak flooring. This floor has three bedrooms and a bathroom with toilet. The two large bedrooms have solid oak flooring. The Zaan bedroom has a breathtaking view of the Zaan and the Zaanse Schans and gives access to the recently renovated modern bathroom (2023), complete with walk-in shower, sink and toilet. The wood stove provides a wonderful warmth and atmosphere.
On the second floor you will find a landing and three bedrooms. There is a deep storage room for extra storage space. Two of these bedrooms have a view of the Zaan, while the third overlooks the old Zaandijk. A unique detail in one of the bedrooms is the glass floor in which a stained glass window is incorporated. The bathroom, with walk-in shower and a washbasin with column, is finished with a classic granite floor. Here are also the connections for a washing machine and dryer. Finally, there is a separate third toilet. All rooms on this floor have a view of the attractive beams.
In short, a beautiful mansion in a unique location with a view, which makes you feel like you are on holiday every day.
